The New York Knicks’ title run did more than end a decades-long wait, it also sparked an immediate surge in championship merchandise sales.

After beating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 to seal the series 4-1, fans wasted no time buying gear celebrating the Knicks’ first title since 1973. It was a moment New York had waited 53 years for, and the sales reflected it quickly.

This was not a surprise. Combine New York’s massive fan base with a half-century title drought and a roster fans love, and the demand was always going to be huge.

Knicks merchandise record highlights demand after NBA Finals win

Darren Rovell reported that the Knicks set a new Fanatics record, becoming the company’s top-selling sports champion within 24 hours of their win, passing the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles.

Rovell added that the Knicks were on track to break Fanatics’ all-time sales record for any sports champion, a mark held since 2016 by the Chicago Cubs after their own historic drought-breaking title.

The numbers were staggering. Fanatics data cited in reports said the Knicks generated more than 8,000 orders per minute after the final buzzer, while their championship gear sales more than doubled the previous NBA record set by the 2020 Lakers.

Fans went after the obvious staples: locker-room shirts, championship hats, player T-shirts and memorabilia marking the franchise’s first title in more than five decades.

Why Knicks Finals win sent merch sales through the roof

This was not just about a trophy. The Knicks are a global brand in the NBA’s biggest market, and they had just ended one of the sport’s most famous title droughts.

Jalen Brunson’s 45-point performance in Game 5 gave the run its defining image. When a player delivers that kind of closing act, championship gear becomes a memory, not just a souvenir.

Timing mattered too. With celebrations and a parade atmosphere building, fans wanted something physical to mark the moment after years of frustration.

There is also the cultural side. Knicks fans are everywhere, from lifelong New Yorkers to celebrity regulars, and many had never seen the team win a title in their lifetime.

Now, the numbers match the emotion. The Knicks did not just win the Finals, they turned the championship into one of Fanatics’ biggest sports merchandise moments ever.
