Newbie Zafrul in the lead for supreme council post

KUALA LUMPUR - He may be a newbie in Umno politics, but Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz is among those who leading the race for the 25 seats in Umno's supreme council in today’s party poll.

The International Trade and Industry Minister has so far secured six votes from the 189 divisions which cast their ballot today.

Tengku Zafrul was among other prominent names leading for the Umno supreme council position.

Apart from him, Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah President Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin was also leading the race, garnering 5 votes.

Inching closer to the contestants were the Umno information chief Isham Jalil and also the former supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam; both securing 4 votes.

Umno has a total 191 divisions but only 189 were eligible to vote as two were suspended.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said on average, there are 500 to 700 members in each division. He also added that the official tally of the result will be known by midnight.

The party's election will concluded today.
