The suspect who abandoned a newborn baby found under a Proton Iswara car in a parking lot on Friday (May 17) is unlikely to be a resident of the nearby apartment complex, according to Brickfields police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood.

Chief Ku Mahmood indicated that police are considering the possibility that the suspect is an outsider, based on several witness statements. "We believe the baby originated from outside the area. Witnesses reported that none of the local residents were seen pregnant or had recently given birth. While the autopsy has been completed, we are still awaiting laboratory results to determine the cause of death," he stated during a press conference at the Brickfields police headquarters today.

He confirmed that the injuries on the baby’s body were not the result of deliberate harm but were caused by animal bites. The police chief also suggested that the baby might be of foreign nationality, inferred from its physical condition.

The authorities are actively tracking down the suspect, relying on information provided by cooperative witnesses. So far, six witnesses, including the individual who discovered the baby and others who were near the crime scene, have come forward with valuable clues.

Previously, media reports detailed that a man discovered the lifeless newborn baby girl at around 9 am while sweeping the apartment’s parking lot. The baby was found beneath a Proton Iswara car, sparking a police investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which deals with the concealment of a birth by secret disposal and causing death. This section carries severe penalties for those found guilty of such actions. The police are continuing their efforts to gather more evidence and hope to make an arrest soon.

This tragic incident has highlighted the need for community vigilance and support in reporting suspicious activities to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The Brickfields police urge anyone with further information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
