The suspect responsible for abandoning a newborn baby in the parking lot under a Proton Iswara car on Friday, May 17, is likely not a resident of the nearby apartment complex.

According to Brickfields police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood, witness statements suggest that the suspect may be an outsider. “We believe the baby is from outside the area. Based on witnesses, none of the residents in the area were seen pregnant or had recently given birth. The autopsy has been completed, and police are still waiting for the laboratory results regarding the cause of the baby’s death. What can be ascertained is that the baby was not killed, and the injuries inflicted on the surface of the baby’s body were caused by animal bites,” he said at the Brickfields police headquarters.

He also noted that the baby is likely of foreign nationality based on its physical characteristics. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is being tracked down. Witnesses have cooperated with the police, providing valuable clues that could serve as evidence. So far, six witnesses, including the individual who discovered the baby and others present at the scene, have been interviewed.

Earlier reports indicated that a man found the lifeless newborn baby girl at around 9 a.m. while sweeping the parking lot of the apartment complex. The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth by secret disposal and causing the baby's death.

The tragic incident has shocked the local community, sparking concern and a desire for justice for the innocent life lost. Authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading to the abandonment of the baby. The police have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the investigation.

This case highlights the broader issue of newborn abandonment, often linked to social and economic pressures. It underscores the need for better support systems for vulnerable individuals, including accessible healthcare and social services, to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future. The community's role in assisting law enforcement and fostering a supportive environment is crucial in addressing and mitigating the circumstances that lead to such tragedies.

As the investigation progresses, the public remains hopeful that the suspect will be apprehended and brought to justice, ensuring accountability and reinforcing the message that the lives of the most vulnerable must be protected.
