Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admits he's keen to see Bruno Guimaraes sign a new deal.
Talks have been ongoing, though the Brazil international is yet to put pen to paper.
After their preseason win against Brighton, Howe said: "There is no doubt in my mind about his future. We would love Bruno to extend his stay here for a long time.
"I am not party to those talks. Those talks are ongoing. I think that Bruno knows how we feel about him and I know he is very happy here."
On the win, Howe said: "It was a tough game for all sorts of reasons the heat and the opposition. To play two XIs in a short space of time is a stretch.
"It was a really good exercise fitness wise because we did not see a lot of the ball. In terms of a game it was what we are looking for."
