- Newcastle have announced the signing of midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City in a deal worth £52 million.
- The midfielder was paraded on the St James’ Park pitch ahead of their Carabao Cup match at home to West Brom.
- The £52m deal makes the 24-year-old Newcastle’s biggest, and oldest, signing of the summer.
- Newcastle will pay an initial £48m for the Spaniard with a potential £4m in add-ons. It could give City a small profit after signing Gonzalez from Porto in January 2025 for £49m.
- Newcastle were keen to add more experience to their midfield following the departures of captain Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer.
