LONDON: Former England captain and manager Kevin Keegan has died at the age of 75, seven weeks after revealing he had been diagnosed with stage four cancer, according to the BBC.
Keegan, one of England's most celebrated footballers, enjoyed a distinguished playing career with Scunthorpe United, Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle United before managing Newcastle, Fulham, England and Manchester City.
His family said he died surrounded by his wife and daughters, describing the two-time Ballon d'Or winner as a devoted husband, father and grandfather while thanking his medical team for their care.
Tributes poured in from across the football world, with Newcastle United describing Keegan as one of the club's most iconic and influential figures, while Liverpool, Hamburg, England and Manchester City also honoured his legacy.
Former players including Alan Shearer, Jamie Carragher and John Aldridge, together with Prince William, paid tribute to Keegan's contribution to football, while England will commemorate his life during their Uefa Nations League match against Spain at Wembley on Sept 26.
