Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was bursting with pride after their 5-1 defeat of Brentford.

Guimaraes described his man of the match display against Brentford as one of the "best days of his life" after netting twice in the 5-1 win at St James' Park.

The Brazil international was afforded a standing ovation against the Bees with the sparkling display coming in front of his watching family who had travelled over from Rio de Janeiro.

Guimaraessaid after the game: "I am very pleased. "It's one of the best days of my life.

"To score two goals - which are my first of the season - and Eddie Howe joked with me I wasn't so good with the head! My second goal made me really happy.

"It's difficult to speak about best moments but this was special. My whole family were in the stadium so it was important for me. I'm so grateful. "It is one of the best days of my life."

Bruno opened the scoring with a downward header before scoring a solo goal after the break.

Reflecting on the strike, Bruno said: "I recovered the ball and went to do a pass. I didn't see anybody though.

"I thought: 'I will just shoot' and it was beautiful. "It was important because Brentford scored two minutes before so it was vital."
