Sky Deutschland says Newcastle scouts were posted to see RB Leipzig defeat Werder Bremen.
The subject of their interest was Hungary international Szoboszlai.
The 22 year-old scored the winning goal in added time. Afterwards, he refused to confirm he would be staying with the club beyond the summer in a post-match interview.
Szoboszlai's contract carries a 70m buyout clause.
