Newcastle United are said to have firmed up their interest in Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
The Magpies were previously linked to city rivals' Internazionale's Nicolo Barella.
While such a deal has yet to materialize, the Magpies are now looking at another Milan-based player in Tonali.
Per The Mail, the price tags of Barella and Leicester City's James Maddison are an issue.
Inter wanted 70 million for Barella, while Maddison is valued at only 10 million less.
Tonali, who is 23, would be a much more affordable alternative at this stage of his career.
