A 2-1 win for Newcastle at Tottenham piles pressure on Spurs manager Thomas Frank and lifts the Magpies back into the Premier League’s top half.

NEWCASTLE United deepened the crisis surrounding Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank with a 2-1 away victory on Tuesday.

The result leaves Spurs languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table and prompted home fans to chant for Frank to be “sacked in the morning.”

Newcastle dominated the first half and thought they had taken the lead through Joe Willock. His effort was ruled out by a VAR review for the finest of offside margins.

The visitors did break the deadlock in first-half stoppage time through Malick Thiaw. He bundled the ball home at the second attempt after his initial header was saved by Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham’s miserable night was compounded by an injury to Wilson Odobert, who limped off before the interval. The home side equalised just after the hour mark from a set-piece, a recurring strength this season.

Archie Gray turned in Pape Matar Sarr’s headed pass from a corner to make it 1-1. The parity lasted only four minutes before Newcastle restored their lead.

Anthony Gordon found too much space and picked out Jacob Ramsey, who fired into the far corner for the winner. The victory was Newcastle’s third away league win of the season and eased pressure on their own manager, Eddie Howe.

A fine night for the Magpies was marred late on when captain Bruno Guimaraes hobbled off with a suspected torn hamstring. The injury is a major blow to their ambitions in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

The win lifts Newcastle back into the top half of the table and to within three points of the top six.
