NFL legend JJ Watt has fully bought into the World Cup spirit with an incredible gesture for a German fan.
Freddy, a German supporter, has gone viral this week for documenting his experience travelling across the United States.
His social media posts have highlighted the size of US sports facilities, gas stations, fast food restaurants and more.
Twitter users from around the world have enjoyed following Freddy’s regular updates on his World Cup trip to America.
Watt has now made Freddy’s holiday even more special by organising a hotel upgrade for him and his friends in Houston.
How JJ Watt surprised Germany’s viral World Cup fan
Germany played Curacao at the Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium in their opening group stage match on Sunday.
The Germans won 7-1—the biggest scoreline of the World Cup so far—as Curacao were no match for the 2014 champions.
Viral German fan Freddy attended the game after going on a road trip across the USA over the past week or so.
But he enjoyed a metaphorical win before Julian Nagelsmann’s team put Group E opponents Curacao to the sword.
Having seen Freddy’s journey go viral on social media, JJ Watt paid for him to stay in a luxury hotel room.
“Our room for the coming days in Houston,” Freddy posted. “I don’t even know what to say about this. This is just unreal. No words.
“Huge, huge thank you to JJ Watt for giving me and my friends the opportunity to stay at a place like this.”
Watt responded: “We’re glad to have you, Freddy. Houston is a special place, we’ll make sure you’re treated right.”
The World Cup is all about people from different cultures coming together to share their love for football.
Freddy’s time in the USA has been one of the feel-good stories of the event so far, and Watt’s generosity deserves huge credit.
