The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed that the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Mayapuri police station be made party in a case concerning alleged illegal scrap-related activities, encroachments, and pollution risks in the Mayapuri Industrial Area of west Delhi.
The order was passed by the Principal Bench of the NGT during the hearing of an application registered on the basis of a newspaper report on the issue published in August last year.
The case pertains to allegations of unauthorised scrap operations, encroachment on public roads, and violation of regulations and environmental hazards in the industrial area.
During a hearing on May 29, counsel for the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MC) informed the tribunal that their replies had been filed and were awaiting consideration.
The MC submitted that while encroachments had been removed from the area, pipe-cutting activities were still being carried out during morning hours.
Seeking stricter monitoring and enforcement, the civic body requested that the police authorities concerned be impleaded in the matter.
Accepting the request, the tribunal directed that the SHO of the Mayapuri police station, Mayapuri Industrial Area Phase-I, be added as Respondent No 8 in the proceedings.
The tribunal also instructed its Registry to issue notice to the newly added respondent.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 15. The tribunal is expected to review the responses filed by the authorities and assess the measures taken to curb illegal activities, prevent encroachments, and address environmental concerns in the area.
