NATIONAL Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Joeben Tai announced on Sunday that the agency has implemented a one-month housing amortization moratorium and allocated P75 million financial aid for beneficiaries affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao.

Tai said the moratorium would take effect in June and shall cover account holders in NHA projects in Zamboanga Peninsula), Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Caraga.

The NHA will also provide financial assistance worth P75 million to 2,500 families under its Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) implementation in Region 12.

Each beneficiary is expected to receive P30,000.

EHAP is one of NHA’s programs that provides a quick cash response to families affected by calamities. The relief measure was ordered by Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development follows a directive from Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s order for the immediate mobilization of government assistance to the affected areas.

During the moratorium, no delinquency interest or additional charges will be imposed. Regular amortization and lease payments will resume on July 1, 2026, and any penalties or interest charges incurred prior to the disaster will also resume on this date.

NHA Assistant General Manager Alvin Feliciano told The Manila Times that affected beneficiaries do not need to apply, as their accounts will be automatically adjusted.

Meanwhile, payments made within the moratorium period will be applied accordingly in their accounts, Feliciano said.

Immediately after the earthquake, Feliciano said the NHA chief has ordered the agency’s regional offices to conduct a rapid assessment of all NHA housing sites in the affected areas.

This will evaluate the status of housing units and community facilities, ensuring the safety of people and the structural integrity of shelters in the resettlement sites, he explained.
