Scottie Scheffler was once again nowhere near his best on Friday at The Masters.

Scheffler has been strangely off his game this year, and his underwhelming form has continued at The Masters.

The 29-year-old currently trails the halfway leader at Augusta National, Rory McIlroy, by 12 shots.

And Sir Nick Faldo has had his say on whether Scheffler is still capable of catching McIlroy over the final 36 holes of The Masters.

The Northern Irishman was in scintillating form on the back nine of Friday and ended up shooting a second round 65.

And now Scheffler’s task of catching him during the final 36 holes is surely an impossible one.

Nick Faldo says if Scottie Scheffler can still win The Masters

Faldo admitted he cannot fathom Scheffler’s swing at times during day two of The Masters.

The world number one has been nowhere near his best during the first two rounds at Augusta National.

Rounds of 70 and 74 have left him 12 back of McIlroy heading into Saturday.

Faldo was asked if he believes Scheffler is still capable of winning The Masters this year.

Well, we’ve seen over the course of this year, his unbelievable transformation from his first rounds, Faldo said.

He’s been par or one-over and then he shoots 12-under over the weekend.

So he knows what to do and he knows how that feels, that’s the most important thing.

He knows once he gets within a couple of shots, he’ll settle down and try and pace himself with the rest of the guys.

One positive for Scheffler if McIlroy wins The Masters

Scheffler will have to post an extraordinary score on Saturday to stand any chance whatsoever of winning The Masters on Sunday.

Either that or McIlroy will have to shoot a disastrous number.

That is highly unlikely to happen, given the quality of his golf right now.

If Rory McIlroy does run away with The Masters, the one positive for Scottie Scheffler is that it may well kick him into gear again, just like it did 12 months ago.

The world number one may not be at his best right now, but we all know the runs he is capable of going on.
