James Harden’s playoff performances faced criticism for years and that narrative quickly resurfaced after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost 107-97 against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night.

The defeat left Cleveland trailing 2-0 in the series and increased pressure on the veteran guard after another difficult postseason outing from him during a crucial matchup.

First Things First’s host Nick Wright only intensified the conversation after sharing a worrying statistic on social media that highlighted Harden’s recurring playoff struggles throughout his NBA career.

Following Cleveland’s Game 2 defeat, Wright posted a detailed statistical breakdown on X showing how frequently Harden delivered inefficient playoff performances across his postseason career.

“Today was James Harden’s 182nd career playoff game. It was the 36th time he’s had 3 or fewer made field goals. Nearly 20% of his career playoff games,” Wright wrote.

“It was the 46th time that he’s had as many or more turnovers than made field goals. More than 25% of his career playoff games.”

Those numbers immediately gained attention because Harden struggled badly during the loss against Detroit while producing another disappointing offensive display in the postseason.

The former MVP finished with only 10 points and completely failed to convert from three-point range during the defeat against the Pistons. Harden also shot just 33% from two-point attempts while struggling to consistently attack the defence.

After the game, Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson surprisingly accepted responsibility for Harden’s lack of second-half involvement during the offensive collapse.

“He took two shots in the second half. I’ll put that on me… We’ve gotta look at it. We can’t have our Hall of Famer taking two shots in the second half,” Atkinson explained.
