Kalidou Koulibaly had to go off against the Spanish giants due to an injury.
Instead of bringing on a more traditional center half, Lampard chose to go with Cucurella.
The Spaniard was at fault for various incidents defensively, including a run of play that eventually led to teammate Ben Chilwell getting a red card.
On Cucurella, pundit Steve Nicol told ESPN: The decision that Frank made to bring on Cucurella and play him at center back absolutely cost them big time.
I thought it was a bad move. I understand if you've got nobody else on the bench, but you've got a center-back on the bench; you've got [Trevoh] Chalobah on the bench."
