SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 - An emergency call from his 18-year-old son prompted a senior police officer to rush to a gym at Melawati Mall, where he detained a man suspected of molesting the teenager in a sauna two days ago.
Harian Metro reported that Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, who serves with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), hurried to the scene after being informed of the alleged sexual assault.
According to a source, the incident occurred at 7.10pm while the victim was in the sauna with a friend before being left alone with the 61-year-old suspect.
“The man initially tried to strike up a conversation and asked the victim about the gym. However, he suddenly began touching several parts of the victim’s body.
“He then went further and groped the victim. The victim fled before informing his friend and the staff at the reception counter,” said the source.
The victim subsequently called his father at 7.25pm to report the incident.
Ezanee arrived in the gym’s lobby at about 7.45pm and instructed the premises’ staff to contact the police.
“Shortly afterwards, the man came downstairs, and the victim identified him as the person responsible.
“Ezanee immediately ordered the man to sit down, identified himself as a police officer by showing his warrant card, and detained him at the scene,” the source said.
The police also seized a smartphone belonging to the suspect to assist with investigations before handing him over for further action. Two police reports were subsequently lodged at the Taman Melawati police station that night.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Ezanee confirmed the incident but declined to comment further.
