Nike captured the emotion of New York’s 53-year wait in a Knicks championship advert that immediately had fans tearing up.
The spot dropped after the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 to win their first NBA title since 1973.
It worked because it did not overcomplicate the moment. It showed what the championship meant to the city, not just the team.

Nike Knicks advert shows New York celebrating title dream
As Sabrina reacted, the advert hit an emotional nerve: “This made me tear up. I love being from NYC so f_____ muuuuch.”
Nike Basketball posted the ad with the simple caption “Sleep well, NY,” but the point was that New York probably could not sleep at all.
The advert shows a young fan in a Jalen Brunson No. 11 jersey running through the city after the Knicks’ title win. He eventually finds a group of people celebrating together, turning one child’s sprint into a citywide release.
Reports described the spot as “Never slept. Always dreamed,” set to Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind,” a fitting choice for a fan base that had waited more than half a century for this night.
The comments showed how deeply it landed. One fan called it: “Best nike ad ever.”
Another kept it simple: “Love this town.”
Knicks fans react as Brunson delivers championship moment
The advert had power because the game behind it was already cinematic.
Jalen Brunson scored 45 points as the Knicks beat the Spurs 94-90 at Frost Bank Center, closing the Finals 4-1 and ending the franchise’s 53-year championship drought.
New York trailed by 16 in the first half and was still down 42-37 at halftime before Brunson dragged the Knicks back with a classic captain’s performance.
The city-first tone of the ad made fans even more emotional. One wrote: “NIKE AND NEW YORK go together so damn bad like 01 and 02 .. omg.”
Another turned Nike’s caption into the perfect response: “Sleep? It took 53 years to get here. There will be no sleep.”
That is why the advert worked. It understood that this was bigger than one trophy lift. For Knicks fans, this was childhood, heartbreak, loyalty and relief finally meeting in the street.
