Director of NIT-Kurukshetra, Prof Brahmjit Singh, interacted with captains and players of various sports teams on Monday evening at the institute’s sports complex.
The interaction session was organised to motivate students towards greater participation in sports activities and to discuss measures for improving and upgrading sports infrastructure at the institute.
During the meeting, captains and players shared several suggestions related to sports facilities and player welfare. Himanshu, captain of the Kabaddi team, highlighted the need for a synthetic mat for Kabaddi, while Pankaj Yadav, captain of the Basketball team, stressed the need to revise the daily allowance provided to players during tournaments and travel in comparison with other institutes.
Players also suggested organising more inter-hostel, inter-branch and inter-year tournaments throughout the academic session to encourage greater student participation in sports and physical activities. They further recommended regular maintenance and upgradation of playgrounds, gymnasium facilities, athletics tracks, indoor courts and practice areas.
Several students stressed the need for modern sports equipment, improved lighting arrangements for evening practice sessions, better seating and drinking water facilities near playgrounds, and increased availability of professional coaching camps and physiotherapy support. The captains also proposed separate changing rooms and improved washroom facilities for male and female students participating in sports activities.
Students also demanded the construction of a multipurpose hall to strengthen indoor sports infrastructure and facilitate games such as badminton, table tennis and yoga, along with the organisation of sports and cultural events more effectively. Suggestions were also made regarding digital scoreboards, medical support during tournaments, sports injury recovery facilities and extending gymnasium timings for students.
Addressing the players, Prof Brahmjit Singh assured students that all genuine issues would be addressed in a phased manner on priority. He said the process of strengthening sports infrastructure and procuring sports equipment was already underway.
He further said repair and renovation work on the swimming pool was in progress and expected to be completed within the next two months. Yoga mats, weighing machines and dumbbells had already been procured, while additional sports equipment would also be provided shortly.
