AJ Dybantsa already has a plan for his first-ever NBA paycheck.
The 2026 NBA Draft class is flooded with talented prospects waiting for a chance to shine on the biggest stage basketball has to offer, i.e., the NBA.
However, no one came close to BYU Cougars superstar AJ Dybantsa, who was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards.
While Dybantsa will face immense pressure as the top pick in the draft, he will also be landing his first professional contract with the Wizards and the rookie already knows how he wants to spend it.

Being in the NBA comes with a variety of perks, including a lucrative salary, even for rookies. There are many who burn their first paychecks on luxury items, but Dybantsa isn’t among them.
After all, even before being picked as the top pick in the draft, Dybantsa had already sort of confirmed his heartwarming plans for his first NBA paycheck.
“My little sister just got her permit. So if she gets her license sometime, she might get a car… maybe,” Dybantsa said before the NBA Draft.
Now, that’s one way to put a small portion of his first NBA paycheck to good use, albeit not immediately.

Over the years, the NBA has gained immense popularity among fans. This has led to the league signing lucrative TV deals, which have ultimately helped players make more money than ever.
In fact, this year, the No. 1 overall pick is projected to make a little over $69 million over a four-year deal right off the bat.
This means Dybantsa will earn about $17.25 million per year during his rookie contract with the Wizards. Keeping that in mind, a car worth a few thousand dollars for his sister may not sound huge, but it’s the thought that counts.
As for his basketball journey, the rookie will team up with the dynamic duo of Trae Young and Anthony Davis to help the Wizards become an NBA Championship contender sooner rather than later.
