
POLICE have ruled out foul play in the death of a 48-year-old solo climber who was found unconscious near the sumit of Gunung Keriang on Monday evening.
Kota Setar District Police Chief ACP Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the cause of death would be confirmed following a post-mortem examination.
“We received information from a member of the public about an unconscious man at the peak of Gunung Keriang at 6.18 pm,” she said in a statement.
A police team from Kota Setar, along with firefighters and rescue personnel, launched an operation and managed to bring the victim down to the foot of the mountain by 6.40 pm.
“Further examination by medical officers confirmed the victim had died at the scene,” she added. “Initial checks revealed no signs of criminal activity on the victim’s body, and he is believed to have been hiking alone.”
The deceased was taken to the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for a post-mortem. The case has been classified as sudden death for now.
Siti Nor Salawati also urged the public not to speculate about the incident, as it could cause unnecessary alarm.
