Police rule out alcohol in Kampar six-vehicle pile-up that seriously injured a motorcyclist, with investigation focusing on careless driving.
KAMPAR: Police have found no indication of drunk driving in a six-vehicle crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.
The incident occurred at about 6.42 pm yesterday at Kilometre 4 Jalan Kuala Dipang–Malim Nawar near Sekolah Kebangsaan Tualang Sekah.
Kampar police chief Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud said the crash involved five cars and a motorcycle.
A 19-year-old female motorcyclist sustained fractures to her left ribs and right hip, as well as head, neck and leg injuries after being struck by a Proton Satria.
Preliminary investigations found that the Proton Satria, driven by a 59-year-old man, lost control and veered into the opposite lane.
It then collided with a Perodua Viva that had exited the road shoulder, causing it to overturn, before striking the motorcycle.
The impact threw the motorcyclist onto the road near a Perodua Bezza.
The woman and two children, aged five and seven, in the Perodua Viva sustained minor injuries.
The Satria driver was also injured, while three other drivers involved were unhurt.
Mohamad Nazri said initial checks found no signs the Proton Satria driver was under the influence of alcohol.
This finding contradicts claims that had been circulating on social media.
“No alcohol was detected, but urine and blood alcohol tests have been conducted,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
