MANILA, Philippines — Former speaker Martin Romualdez' lawyer, Ade Fajardo, said on Sunday that there was no evidence against the lawmaker.
The Office of the Ombudsman is close to finishing its fact-finding investigation involving Romualdez, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Friday.
"Former speaker Romualdez is ready to face the process. But there is really no proof or evidence against him," Fajardo said in a statement on Sunday.
Last April, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said that they are preparing a case of plunder against Romualdez and former Senate president Francis Escudero. No case has been filed against them in court.
Romualdez has denied involvement in any anomalous flood project while Escudero claimed that he has never been charged with corruption.
