“No government funds were used for the expenses of the Olympic Council of Malaysia’s (OCM) delegation to the Paris Olympics.”

The National Sports Council (MSN) clarified the matter today (August 7) via an official statement posted on its Facebook page in response to the debate about the presence of family members of the Malaysian Olympic Council President at the Paris Olympics.

In the statement, MSN said that it is only responsible for the costs that revolve around athletes, coaches, and MSN officials.

“The costs also include the National Sports Institute and the operations of the Malaysia House at the Paris Games.”

When it comes to the OCM delegation, OCM clarified that the costs were covered by the organisation itself. Costs for the guests, on the other hand, were borne by the ones who invited them. OCM also highlighted that “no government funds were allocated for the event.”

Last night, following the online debate regarding the matter, the President of OCM, Tan Sri Norza broke the silence and said he has a “special quota” to bring guests along with him to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Top officials attending the Olympics were allowed to bring guests under special accreditation cards. These special accreditation cards were allocated to the OCM president and secretary-general, each with accompanying guests.”

“Please bring your wife to the Olympics in Bangladesh or Myanmar too”

Social media users, on the other hand, are still not happy with MSN’s explanation regarding the matter, and many of them believe the quota should’ve been given to more appropriate and relevant individuals.

“It’s not just about money, but the quota which should be given to individuals related to the sports event – coaches, sparing partners, or motivational experts.”

“We’re fine with not going to Paris, but you’re so excited to come up with a statement.”

“It’s easy. The one who misuses his power, please resign.”

“I would like to see him bringing his family members to the Olympics in Bangladesh or Myanmar. I would like to see if they’re still excited to support Malaysia until then.”

“Same problem, even after the changes in Ministers. Those in the MOM are obviously the issues.”
