As the Merdeka month enters its third week, businesses in Kuantan need to take note!
Majlis Bandaraya Kuantan has announced that businesses which have not put up the Jalur Gemilang, or the national flag, on their premises will be fined beginning tomorrow 18 August.
According to MBK, it is part of the premises’ license requirements and hence they need to comply with the regulation. The flags flown must also be in pristine condition – not torn or prayed. Some businesses have yet to comply as the deadline is presumably today.
This year, the government is encouraging patriotic Malaysians (basically, everyone) to fly the Jalur Gamilang to mark the Merdeka month of August.
Many businesses have yet to fly the flag as of today. In Kuala Lumpur, DBKL will be busy contacting business owners to remind them to fly the Jalur Gemilang in the coming days. It has not been confirmed yet if a fine will be enforced for non-compliance in the capital city.
Well, what do you think of this? Has your business started decorating the premise with the Jalur Gemilang? Or do you have a flag at home? Happy Merdeka month, and don’t forget to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
