The Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) in Selangor already has a manifesto for the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16) if they win the state.

PAS Selangor assured that the gambling premises in the state will not be immediately closed if the party becomes the state government.

PAS Selangor assures that it won’t immediately shut down gambling premises if elected state government

Its commissioner, Ab Halim Tamuri, was quoted as saying that Selangor’s multi-racial residents need not worry as PAS understands that the state needs a different policy from what the party is doing in other states.

Ab Halim said that it is highly unlikely that PAS will shut down all the gambling premises in Selangor, but they will discuss and conduct studies before any decision is taken.

“We are a democratic country. Consensus must be prioritised,” Ab Halim said.

Malaysians are starting to accept PAS, the party claims

During his visit to the China Press Headquarters in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, Ab Halim also denied that PAS was unable to control urban areas, giving the example of the state assembly constituency he represents, Paras Jaya, as proof.

He said that voters currently care more about the individual capabilities of a candidate, and at the same time, PAS has professionals and academics who come from various backgrounds to form a better government.

Ab Halim also pointed out that many people have started to accept PAS, and the negative perceptions against the party are mostly due to misunderstandings. He also shut down claims that stated PAS is only “popular” in rural Malay areas, saying,

“That claim may have been true 20 years ago, but now, the situation has changed.”

“Our concept, PAS for All, means that we look after everyone’s welfare, including the non-Muslims. No one is left behind.”

During the campaigns for GE15 in 2022, PAS also assured Malaysians that the party would not interfere in the non-Muslims’ lifestyles if it governed Malaysia.

What do you think of his take on this matter?
