KOTA KINABALU: The government has not introduced a rent-to-own policy for People’s Housing Programme (PPR) units, even those occupied for over 15 years, said Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

Currently, PPR homes are rented to eligible tenants only.

He was responding to concerns in the State Assembly over evictions of PPR occupants’ children after the original tenants passed away.

Joachim also announced the development of 225 new low-cost homes for B40 groups at five locations across Sabah, priced at RM47,000 per unit, with further projects planned under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

The Tanjung Aru flats, meanwhile, will be redeveloped into a mixed development including affordable housing.
