The LRT Kelana Jaya line faced yet another service delay this evening (24 February), just hours after commuters were disrupted during the morning rush hour.

In an official statement issued at 3 PM, RapidKL revealed that the delays were caused by a technical fault involving the train door system and the platform screen doors at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) station. Earlier today, the same line suffered a separate major delay, leaving many commuters stranded in long queues at various stations for over 30 minutes.

Recovery and resumption

Following the initial rush-hour disruption, the LRT Kelana Jaya line resumed operations at 8:12 AM, with train frequencies being gradually adjusted throughout the morning.

Fortunately, the second disruption of the day was short-lived. In a subsequent statement, RapidKL assured passengers that the issues with the door system had been resolved following the completion of repair works. Services are now gradually returning to normal. As of 4 PM, RapidKL expects the train frequency for the Kelana Jaya line to be approximately four to five minutes.

Public frustrations

Despite the recovery, commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly. One frustrated passenger remarked, “Shut down the whole Kelana Jaya line.”

Many commuters were disappointed at facing two disruptions in a single day. Questions are being raised regarding the underlying issues facing RapidKL, especially given the frequent service delays occurring less than a week into the start of Ramadan.

In the comments section of their social media updates, RapidKL assured commuters that train services for the Kelana Jaya line are operating normally at the time of writing.

Please stay safe on your commute home and stay tuned for further updates on rail services.
