No time-based promotions for teachers with discipline issues, says PM

TEACHERS with disciplinary problems will not be eligible for time-based promotions, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said such promotions should not be applied to non-performing teachers.

"While I agree with the principles of time-based promotions, it will not apply if your discipline is weak and you don't attend classes.

"I will personally cancel your time-based promotion," he said at the National Union of Teaching Profession's (NUTP) golden jubilee celebration in Bangi today.

On another matter, Anwar said that despite the government's RM1.5 trillion debt, it would fulfil its commitment to raise the salaries of civil servants this December.

He said the Public Services Department (PSD) will find ways to ensure the salary increase.

"Some said Anwar is not being practical and only wants to be popular, saying that we have no money, but want to increase pay. Others say it is not likely to happen.

"But the PSD is working hard to find ways to make it a reality," he said. – July 13, 2024
