
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said he has full confidence in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations into the alleged mining scandal involving several Gabungan Rakyat Sabah assemblymen.
“I’ve moved on beyond the issue so I can do my job. These are the sort of irritations that comes once in a while but should not deter me from doing my job.
Advertisement“As a people’s representative it does not for me. Let the MACC do its job fairly. If they need additional statement I am also ready to give to them,” he said.
He was asked for his response to being implicated indirectly in the videoclip by the whistleblower who is heard mentioning expressing intent to make a political contribution to the party through an aide, which never materialised.

He said with state elections around the corner, the most important campaign material is the government’s track record readily assessed by the people.

On the possibility of a Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-Parti Warisan pact, he said both parties including Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) seem not interested and that the idea may fizzle out.

Masidi also said the State Government is ready to bear the cost of building an overtaking lane for the Kundasang-Ranau stretch despite it belonging to federal.
He said it is best if the Federal Government could allocate the funding but they usually take too long and so the state government would not hesitate to step in.
“Cabinet has agreed to the expenditure ordinarily borne by Federal. We are waiting for the Sabah Public Works Department design for the proposal submitted late 2024.
“Lorries make it difficult for faster moving vehicles to overtake causing a 15 minute travel to turn into two hours, especially during the weekends and holidays.
“It’s a lot of (time) wasted and the state government feels it is a priority for the people since it is the main road connecting Kota Kinabalu to Ranau and Sandakan…Most of the problematic roads in Sabah belongs to federal,” he said, after a lion dance eye-dotting ceremony and handover of heads to the Tionghoa community at Hakka Hall, Thursday.
In his speech he asked the Chinese community to be patient as the government is spending money to fix infrastructure problems inherited from the previous governments.
He also said Sabahans celebrate all ethnic holidays which is proof of a highly tolerant people, an ingredient that makes the state great.
