Kota Kinabalu: Voters in the State should turn up in numbers to exercise their duty and determine a new fate for the country, said Upko Kota Kinabalu Divisional Chief Dennison R Indang.
He said election fever is running high after the announcement of candidates earlier this week and with polling day less than three weeks away. He said Sabahans should be making preparations to free their schedule so as not to miss out to exercise their right to vote on Nov 19.
“This is a very important election where we aim to install a new government with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister and the sure way to achieve it is by voting Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“It will be an historic milestone for Malaysia...and all Sabahans have the opportunity to play a part in reshaping the political landscape of our beloved country,” Dennison said.
Dennsion, who is also an Upko Supreme Council Member, said the main objective of this 15th General Election is to return PH to power so that it can set Malaysia on the right path.
“In order to do so we need every individual to recognise the power of their vote and that only a full force turn out can deliver triumph.
“We have Sabahans from all over the country making arrangements to come home to vote. Some will be coming from overseas. Those who are living in the city would do well to ‘balik kampung’ to vote,” he said.
Data analysis and statistics from previous election results revealed that in many constituencies victories were handed by just a slim majority, some as small as two-digit figures and others in the low three-digits, said Dennison.
“The outcome of these results were factored by low voter turnout. It could have easily been very different if only a few more voters had turn up.
“As a grassroots leader, I urge every individual to cast aside any reluctance and just turn up to the polling station because every vote is important...every vote counts,” he added.
Towards this end, Dennison urged Sabahans to ignore any propaganda that attempt to sway voter sentiments by releasing unconfirmed and baseless news or information.
“We Sabahans must be smart to recognise the bigger picture that is in play in these elections. We must think hard and carefully on who we should vote,” he said.
