Kota Kinabalu: Former Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Hiew King Cheu suggested that MyKad readers and thumbprint scanners be used in all polling centres.

He said this followed the many queries raised by people concerning the surge in the numbers of new voters in the electoral roll for the 15th General Election.

“The Election Commission (EC) must look into the matter with utmost professionalism and responsibility.

“The majority of the voters wish to see a clean and transparent election, particularly in Sabah. No hanky-panky is permitted,” he said.

Besides the use of the indelible ink, he said his proposal was vital to verify the voters’ true identity.

“Let there be no mistakes, and the dubious voters must be turned away to ensure a fair election. MyKad readers and thumbprint scanners, similar to those used by banks, are readily available.

“Poling centres should have a few sets on hand to check all the MyKads,” he added.

He urged the EC to immediately arrange this for a smooth and transparent general election.
