Kota Kinabalu: Residents in Peak Vista Condominium and The Peak Condominium claim Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) allowing its outdoor plaza to play host to events is causing noise nuisance.

They cite a car exposition hosted on Sept 17 with the purpose of boosting Sabah’s tourism and automotive industry. Residents complained of excessive noise emanating from the vehicles’ exhaust modification.

It is understood that in November, a StyloFest event prompted similar criticism during a three-day festival which ran from 10am to midnight and concluding with a live concert accompanied by cheering and loud music which early risers found particularly disturbing.

“They should have noisy events inside the building. Why at an open space?” asked Athanasius Chong Chiew Khian, who leads the Peak Vista Protem owners committee.

He said the residents have sent legal letters on the matter to SICC, DBKK and the police.

“SICC and police replied and agreed to our proposed joint meeting. But we are still waiting for DBKK to confirm. We wrote two letters and did a few follow-up calls, still no reply. Thus, still no joint meeting.

“But SICC already promised to be mindful. So we took that they will be more prudent when allowing open space events.

“Until the latest Cars and Urban Lifestyle Trends (Cult) rollout party…terrible noise from those modified cars with loud exhaust. The rollout parade kept circling SICC with all those cars revving the engines.

“It is just not right, no way that those cars are legal approval from police traffic or Road Transport Department,” he said.
