Norway defender Leo Østigård has become the father of a son but could only follow the birth by video call because of the World Cup.

The 26-year-old was unable to be there in person as he is preparing with the Scandinavians in the United States for their second group match against Senegal on Monday in New Jersey.

He said he was "totally exhausted" by the call at the Norway team hotel in North Carolina "but it was fantastic."

A video released by the Norwegian association shows his team-mates singing and applauding at the hotel.

He scored a header shortly after coming on in Norway's 4-1 win over Iraq in their World Cup opener. He dedicated the goal to his loved ones and formed an A - for partner Aurora - with his fingers.
