Kota Kinabalu: The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) in Sabah this year is taking a more community-oriented approach, with activities being held in every district involving participants walking around and engaging with local communities.
Sabah Information Department (Japen) director Jainisah Mohd Noor said the approach provided participants with an opportunity to interact more closely with the community while distributing Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags.
“This time, the approach is slightly different. The KMJG is not being carried out in the same way as in previous years, when we travelled in convoys of more than a dozen vehicles from Kota Kinabalu around Sabah.
“It is no longer a large-scale vehicle convoy. Instead, it focuses more on walking around, engaging with the community and local residents while distributing Jalur Gemilang as well as Sabah flags,” she told reporters during the KMJG programme at a Petronas station in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) here.
Jainisah said the programme also featured the ‘1 House, 1 Jalur Gemilang’ (1R1JG) initiative through the industrial cluster, with 200 Jalur Gemilang magnetic stickers and Sabah flags being distributed for vehicles at the petrol station.
She said the initiative was carried out in collaboration with Petronas at selected stations, while Japen was also expanding the distribution of Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags through several other clusters, including places of worship, schools, higher education institutions, sports and security.
The KMJG convoy, which began its tour on Aug 1, will continue its activities in districts across Sabah during the National Month celebrations, with various programmes held together with the community.
Besides encouraging the display of Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags, the programme also serves as a platform to deliver messages on nationhood while fostering patriotism and a sense of togetherness among the community.
