Kota Kinabalu: The historic Atkinson Clock Tower, the only wooden clock tower in the world that used to show accurate time from its two-clock faces in the direction of north west and south west has stopped doing so since last year.
Its last reading is at 10:40 if seen during the day or 22:40 if seen at night.
The fact that nobody noticed until Daily Express investigated suggests keeping the clock ticking is “blind money” opportunity unless a chime with amplified sound at every hour that can be heard for at least a 2km radius is effected, like London’s Big Ben.
One of the two remaining pre-war relics still standing in Kota Kinabalu (formerly Jesselton) it is because the Chinese human clock winder had the contract taken away from him and awarded to a bumiputra who after getting the contract, failed to do the job.
