PUTRAJAYA - The notice issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) against Perikatan Nasional (PN) is not a decision to cancel the coalition’s registration, but to allow PN to explain the complaint lodged by Bersatu.
In a statement today, RoS said the notice under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832) was issued on Sept 22 and PN had been given a reasonable period to respond.
"The notice is intended to request Perikatan Nasional to provide an explanation regarding the complaint lodged by Bersatu with RoS, and the notice is not a decision to cancel its registration,” the statement said.
Following the notice, RoS said a suspension order had also been issued under subsection 13(2A) of Act 832, suspending all PN activities with effect from yesterday.
"The suspension order is intended to safeguard the interests of the organisation from continuing to violate its regulations,” the statement said.
RoS also urged all parties to refer to official information issued by the department and avoid speculation or the dissemination of unverified information that could confuse the public.
On Aug 11, RoS confirmed that it had received an official complaint from Bersatu over the party’s allegation that it was excluded from the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
The department said the complaint also touched on issues relating to Bersatu’s membership status in the coalition. - BERNAMA
