Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

The Telegraph says the newly-promoted club are in advanced talks with the striker.

The deal, expected to be around £17.5million, would shatter Forest's current transfer record - the £13.5m spent on Joao Carvalho in 2018-19.

Awoniyi, 24, began his European career at Liverpool but never made an appearance for them having been loaned out seven times.

He initially arrived at Union Berlin on loan two years ago and the German club decided to keep him permanently for a fee of £6.5m.

The Nigerian played 43 matches in all competitions last season scoring 20 goals.
