Southampton’s struggles continued against Manchester United last time out when an Amad Diallo hat-trick consigned the Saints to a fourth straight Premier League defeat. Ivan Juric was looking at his first league win in charge of the club until the final moments of the match when his side let a one-goal lead slip away. Another defeat means Southampton remain rooted to the bottom of the table, ten points off safety and in urgent need of a miraculous run of form to give them a chance of survival. A trip to the City Ground to play an in-form Forest team who are flying high in the Champions League places is one of the last places Southampton would have wanted to travel to following their late collapse in Manchester.

Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten streak extended to seven matches following a 1-1 draw against league leaders Liverpool last time out. Forest looked on course for a seventh successive league victory until Diogo Jota’s second half equaliser cancelled out Chris Wood’s first half opener. Rumours of a potential title challenge are beginning to circulate around the City Ground and Forest can move back to within six points of Liverpool, and go level on points with second placed Arsenal, with a win here. The visit of Southampton to the East Midlands is therefore welcome as Forest have lost just one of their last 12 Premier League meetings with the Saints.
