Follow live coverage as Nottingham Forest face Sunderland today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Liverpool look to fend off competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and more.

The race for the Champions League places should also be a compelling battle, with a fifth place possible for English teams. Manchester United’s latest rebuild under Ruben Amorim sets expectations high once more after a dismal season last time out.

Meanwhile, it’s Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

This is the first top-flight meeting between these clubs since 1997, and the first in any league for nearly eight years. Sunderland have won five of the last seven encounters, and they've started as if they can continue that trend today.

So far, the visitors have been moving the ball around with purpose, looking nothing like a promoted team playing away to opponents who recently qualified for Europe. They'll want to capitalise on any Europa League hangover for Forest.

Sunderland win an early corner, which is played short before being swung in from the right. Forest initially clear their lines, but Masuaku then sends over a dangerous delivery from the left flank; the hosts ultimately manage to deal with it.

Last season's Championship play-off winners, Sunderland have made an impressive start to life back in England's top flight, picking up eight points so far. Regis Le Bris commended his team for their character after last week's against-the-odds draw with Aston Villa, when they went down to 10 men during the first half but came from behind to salvage a point. As a result, the Black Cats sit eight places above Forest in the Premier League standings.

By contrast, Le Bris makes just one change to his Sunderland XI. Masuaku replaces suspended left-back Reinildo, who was sent off against Aston Villa last week. With three Premier League goals so far, Isidor continues to lead the Black Cats' attack. Club-record signing Habib Diarra is still sidelined by injury, but O’Nien is back on the bench.

Following their midweek trip to Seville, Forest make several changes. Most notably, McAtee gets his first Premier League start for the Tricky Trees, while Wood replaces Igor Jesus. Bakwa and Ndoye also come in, flanking the Kiwi striker up front. Ola Aina, Murillo and Douglas Luiz are all unavailable, with the latter sustaining a hamstring injury on Wednesday.

Nottingham Forest vs Sunderland

Still searching for their first win under new boss Ange Postecoglou, Nottingham Forest have struggled to hold on to a lead since the Australian took charge. His side have let an advantage slip in three of four matches so far, including last week's 1-1 draw with Burnley in the Premier League and a 2-2 result in Wednesday's Europa League opener against Real Betis. On their return to continental competition after a three-decade hiatus, Forest frittered away a 2-1 lead in the closing stages.
