Because preceding the meeting, the Mentri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, earlier, had written a letter to the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, informing them he was no longer the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

That was what was revealed by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar in a moment that was captured on video that went viral.

Reportedly, the Yang di Pertuan Besar said to the Mentri Besar that he is the Yang Dipertuan Besar but the Mentri Besar said he is not in a letter that the Mentri Besar wrote to the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal.

Few days before this, on 13 Oct 2026, it was reported that the Yang di-Pertuan Besar has decided not to attend the scheduled Conference of Rulers Meeting in order to focus on state affairs, particularly the ceremony concerning the appointment of the Undang of Jelebu.

It is both customary and a formal constitutional requirement under Article 38(3) of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia for each Menteri Besar or Chief Minister to accompany their respective Head of State (the Malay Rulers or Yang di-Pertua Negeri) when attending the Conference of Rulers (Majlis Raja-Raja) meetings.

Since the Mentri Besar of Negeri Sembilan had, on his own, bypassed conventional royal protocols and wrote directly to the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal to endorse a declaration that the throne was vacant, it is obvious that Tuanku Muhriz saw it fit to skip the meeting.

This intervention by a sitting Menteri Besar attempting to formalize the ouster of his own reigning monarch via the Conference of Rulers' secretariat remains entirely unmatched in modern Malaysian history.

Now the public knows what the Mentri Besar of Negeri Sembilan did and why Tuanku Muhriz skip the meeting.

Not because he was not invited.

There is no quick fix to this imbroglio.

The Malay Rulers have called upon all parties to prioritise a resolution grounded in the state's laws and customs.

Based on the constitutional framework and customary laws of Negeri Sembilan, resolving the dispute typically requires mediation, consensus, or a compromise within the ruling institution rather than a standard legal battle.

And it looks like to move forward, a compromise is required from both or one party if a finality to this quaqmire is required.
