Hundreds of students and activists from the National Students Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest outside the headquarters of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Saturday, alleging serious flaws in the board’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system and demanding corrective measures to address students’ grievances.

Led by NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar, the protesters raised slogans against what they described as an opaque evaluation process, citing instances of incorrect marking that have adversely affected the academic prospects of students.

According to the student body, numerous candidates who performed well in their examinations have reportedly received lower-than-expected marks, leading to anxiety and uncertainty among both students and parents. The organisation called for greater transparency and accountability in the evaluation process.

Among its key demands, NSUI sought an immediate end to the existing OSM system, accountability for alleged evaluation discrepancies, a fair and student-friendly re-evaluation mechanism, and measures to safeguard students’ academic future and mental well-being.

Addressing the gathering, Jakhar said, “CBSE cannot experiment with the future of students. Thousands of students across the country are suffering because of a careless and insensitive evaluation system. The OSM process has created confusion, injustice, and distrust among students. NSUI stands firmly with every affected student and will continue this fight until justice is delivered.”

He further added, “A student’s future is not a file to be processed casually. Behind every answer sheet are years of hard work, dreams, and sacrifices made by families. We demand complete transparency in the evaluation process and immediate corrective action from CBSE. If students are not heard, NSUI will intensify its nationwide agitation.”
