National University scored a come-from-behind victory against Katayama Baseball Academy, 5-4, in the elimination round of the 2026 Liga Baseball Philippines Season 2 Celebrity Cup held over the weekend at the De La Salle University Laguna campus.
The NU Bulldogs of team manager Wopsy Zamora trailed the KBA Stars of Japanese Keiji Katayama by four runs going to the crucial 8th frame when UAAP 3-peat champions rallied to cut KBA’s lead down to one, 4-3.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, NU slugger Derrick Plaza hit a double that sent runners from the first and second bases home to win the match.
"Our Bulldogs didn't give up.Then a roaring comeback.Patience is the key to our victory against a front-running team," NU head coach Romar Landicho said.
The win catapulted NU to a tie of first place with the Stars at 4-1.
In the other game, Muralla Dawgs improved it win-loss record to 3-2 after scoring a 16-12 victory over the Philippine Air Force (2-3).
The Dawgs share third place with the DLSU Unicorns of Pepe Muñoz at 3-2 while University of Santo Tomas remained in fifth place with a 2-2 mark.
Down at the bottom of the standings are the Ateneo Wolves at 1-4 while Dumaguete is yet to barge into win column.
