KUCHING, Aug 19 — Selangor sprinter Nur Afrina Batrisyia Mohd Rizal was the talk of the arena today when she took gold in the women’s 100m event and simultaneously obliterated the Malaysian Games (Sukma) record.
In addition to living up to the expectation that she would bring home gold, Nur Afrina clocked 11.64s to break the 16-year record of 11.82s, set by Johor’s Siti Fatimah in the 2008 Sukma in Terengganu.
Nur Afrina said she aims to smash another Sukma record tomorrow, in the 200m sprint event.
She added that she wants a chance to improve her personal record, 24.0s, which she achieved in the Terengganu Open last month.
“In addition to gifting Selangor a gold medal in the 200m event tomorrow, my goal is also to replace the championship record held by Perak runner Noor Eewan Syafiqah Mohd Sabri, at 24.31s,” she told Media Selangor today.
