Nurfisya murder: Elderly couple released, investigation focuses on two teenage boys

THE investigation into the murder of college student Nurfisya Zulkifly is now focused on two teenage boys after an elderly couple who were previously arrested were released yesterday.

Kota Bharu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azmir Damiri, said the 60- and 66-year-old couples were previously arrested in Ketereh, along with two 19-year-old teenagers, who were involved in assisting the investigation.

“The elderly couple have been released on police bail.

“We are focusing the investigation on the two teenage boys,” he said.

He stated that the two male suspects involved were remanded for seven days at the Magistrate's Court, effective from Saturday.

He said the case was being investigated thoroughly under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, including examining the motive for the incident.

It was earlier reported that four individuals, including an elderly couple, were detained between 4.40 pm on Friday and 2.30 am on Saturday to assist in the investigation into the brutal murder of Nurfisya, 19.

The body of the third-semester Diploma in Early Childhood Education student was found on the road in a rice field in Ketereh at 12.20 am last Friday.

The autopsy results confirmed that 61 stab wounds were found on the victim's body and face, in addition to death from multiple stab wounds to the chest. – May 4, 2026
