PKR grants Nurul Izzah Anwar temporary leave as deputy president, with Saifuddin Nasution appointed to assume her duties temporarily.
PETALING JAYA: PKR’s Central Leadership Council (MPP) has agreed to grant Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar temporary leave from her post following the party’s 2026 National Congress, with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution appointed to carry out her duties in the interim.
In a statement today, the MPP said it had considered Nurul Izzah’s request to step down as deputy president but, after hearing her views as well as those of the party leadership, decided instead to grant her temporary leave.
The council also appointed Saifuddin, a PKR vice-president, to assume the responsibilities of the deputy president during her absence.
The decision was made during today’s MPP meeting, where members also reviewed the outcomes of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
The council said it respected the results of both polls and thanked party members and campaign workers for their efforts. It also expressed appreciation to former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for his service over the past two terms.
Separately, the MPP confirmed that PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari would fully assume the role of the party’s election director.
Nurul Izzah will also officiate the Wanita PKR and Angkatan Muda Keadilan congresses on Aug 14 as part of the party’s 2026 National Congress.
The council also approved 3,533 new members who registered online between July 12 and August 2026.
The statement was issued by PKR Information Chief Fahmi Fadzil following the meeting.
