
Malaysian cyclist Nurul Izzah Izzati faces world champion Mina Sato in the Asian Track Cycling Championships sprint semi-final in Tagaytay
NATIONAL track cyclist Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri (pic) has advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s elite sprint at the Asian Track Cycling Championships.
The 23-year-old now faces a formidable challenge against Japan’s two-time world Keirin champion, Mina Sato, in Heat 1.
In the quarter-finals, Nurul Izzah Izzati delivered a dominant 2-0 victory over her compatriot, Nur Alyssa Mohd Farid.
Mina Sato also secured her semi-final spot with a 2-0 win against Hong Kong’s Cho Yiu Yeung.
Heat 2 of the semi-finals will feature a contest between China’s Yuan Liying and Wang Lijuan.
The Malaysian men’s camp, however, suffered an early exit in the elite sprint category.
