- An under-construction high-rise building near New York City’s Grand Central Terminal has been evacuated due to fears it will collapse after workers discovered cracks and buckling support beams.
- Emergency responders were called to 235 East 42nd Street around 8 a.m. after construction workers noticed structural support beams on the 21st and 22nd floors beginning to buckle.
- As workers began evacuating the building, the structural stress caused floors 21 through 26 to start caving in, according to reports.
- The building, which previously housed offices for the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, is currently being converted into a residential building with over 1,600 apartments, with construction slated for completion in 2027.
- The New York City Fire Department confirmed its involvement in a “major technical rescue response” at the location, but no injuries have been reported.
