NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani appears to confirm Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding date and location

New York City’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared to verify reports that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are indeed getting married in the city next month.

The “Opalite” hitmaker and Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, who got engaged last year, are rumored to be tying the knot over the July 4 weekend at Madison Square Garden, home of the reigning NBA champions, the New York Knicks.

Speaking at a Monday press conference, Mamdani, 34, discussed the city’s preparedness for the upcoming July 5 World Cup match at MetLife Stadium, just across the Hudson River in East Rutherford, New Jersey. He acknowledged that the match coincides with a few other “big events” happening in the city that holiday weekend.

“We are the biggest city in the country,” Mamdani said. “We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one.

“We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding all happening at the same time,” he continued, assuring that he is “fully confident in the work of the NYPD” to provide a “safe experience” over the three-day weekend.

A reporter later asked Mamdani a follow-up question about Swift’s wedding: “Have you been invited? Are you going?”

“No and no,” he replied, laughing. “I wish them a lovely wedding. I’ll listen to ‘Only the Young’ at home on my own,” the mayor added, referencing the 2020 protest song featured in the singer’s Netflix documentary Miss Americana. The track, originally intended for her 2019 album Lover, includes lyrics about school shootings, Donald Trump and vote tampering.

While Mamdani did not directly address the exact location of Swift and Kelce’s wedding, his comments at least seemingly confirm that it will take place somewhere in New York City.

Swift, 36, and Kelce, 36, have been together since September 2023. Last month, numerous sources leaked supposed details about their forthcoming nuptials, including that they will be held at the city’s world-famous arena.

Located in Midtown Manhattan above Penn Station, Madison Square Garden has multiple entrances and exits, which could be a reason why the high-profile couple reportedly chose the venue.

One source told Page Six that “privacy was of number one importance to them both.” The source also suggested that guests would be taken to the arena on blacked-out buses to ensure privacy.

More than 1,000 guests are reported to have been invited to the wedding, including Suki Waterhouse, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid and Ed Sheeran. Swift’s once-close friend model Keleigh Sperry and her actor husband, Miles Teller, however, were reportedly not invited.

A source told TMZ earlier this month that Sperry and the “Fate of Ophelia” singer are not as close as they used to be, and it’s been a “sad time” for their friendship. Their mutual friends reportedly hoped they would reconcile before the wedding.

Another source claimed that the pair grew apart due to lifestyle differences, but it isn’t clear what those were.
